The initiative aims to empower grassroots communities to identify and reduce home health hazards, promote safe and healthy housing, and support job creation in environmental health fields.

The PEACH purpose includes:

To empower grassroots communities to mitigate home hazards; including lead, mold, pesticides, indoor air quality and home safety;

To implement a healthy home strategy that teaches community;

residents to recognize home hazards that may lead to serious health problems for children and to provide resources to residents to aid in the reduction of home hazards;

To create business development and job creation opportunities for impoverished community residents; especially, but not limited to lead based-paint disciplines, asbestos certifications, mold remediation, integrated pest-management, indoor air quality and home safety;

To identify perceived liabilities in impoverished communities and transform them into assets in the community;

To develop and to support neighborhood-based strategies to empower communities to address the challenges and problems of their neighborhoods;

To raise public and private awareness of the need for safe and healthy homes and public community properties;

To encourage individuals and institutions to participate in effective strategies to increase awareness about the need for safe and healthy housing and communities; and,

To assist local governments in program design, policy making and resource allocation for environmentally safe housing and communities.
